Hammond Organs - Some Facts You Should Know

1. The B-3 is now 53 years old.
The old Hammond organs, such as the B-3 and C-3, have not been made since 1975. All of the tone wheel generator Hammond B-3 or C-3 organs are now between 33 and 53 years old. Some other models are even older. What other electrical or mechanical device are you using in your church which you have had for this long?

2. Parts to repair these organs are not available.
Parts to repair these old organs have not been made since 1975. When your organ is being repaired, many parts must be taken out of other old organs, sometimes up to 50 or even 60 years old, which have been scrapped and are being used for parts. How long do you think these parts will last?

3. Used organs are being sold for up to $10,000.
Rebuilt or refurbished organs use parts taken from other old organs. Prices for old B-3 organs range from $4,000 - $10,000. This is sometimes more than twice what they cost when they were new. You are still getting an organ which is up to 53 years old and for which parts are not available. In many instances the only thing on these organs which is taken from a B-3 may be a cabinet.  The businesses that rebuild these organs use parts taken from many old Hammond models such as the A-100 series, BC, BV, B-2, CV, C-2, RT-2, RT-3, and put them into B-3, BV, B-2 or BC cabinets.  They are then sold as B-3 organs at inflated prices.  Don't be fooled!

4. Digital technology produces better sound.
All of the recent advances in sound technology have been digital. It is widely agreed that digital technology produces truer sound than had been possible with older technology. It is cleaner, crisper, and more realistic. The vintage Hammond organs are burdened with technology developed in the early 1950's.

5. Brand new, state of the art, Hammond Organs are now available.
